There are two reasons why we are releasing a series of video presentations on the Mass.

First: In his encyclical of July 2, 1988, Ecclesia Dei, Pope John Paul II wrote: "To all those Catholic faithful who feel attached to some previous liturgical and disciplinary forms of the Latin tradition, I wish to manifest my will to facilitate their ecclesial communion by means of the necessary measures to guarantee respect for their rightful aspirations. In this matter I ask for the support of the bishops and of all those engaged in the pastoral ministry in the Church.... Moreover, respect must everywhere be shown for the feelings of all those who are attached to the Latin liturgical tradition, by a wide and generous application of the directives already issued some time ago by the Apostolic See, for the use of the Roman Missal according to the typical edition of 1962."

Over 14 years later, the vast majority of Catholics who are attached to the Latin liturgical tradition remain unable to assist at the Traditional Latin Mass in their local dioceses. Most of those who do assist at the Traditional Mass, where it is available, are required to drive long distances and inconvenient times in order to fulfill their Sunday obligation.

In Omaha, Nebraska we have been blessed in a special way because we have access daily to the Traditional Latin Mass. We recognize, and constantly give thanks to God, for this great blessing. For those who do not have this type of access to the Traditional Mass, we have videotaped a series of Low Masses in the various colored vestments of the Church and are making them available to the faithful for use in their devotions and prayer.

Second: Often, those who are attached to the Latin liturgical tradition are unfamiliar with the writings of St. Peter Julian Eymard, St. Leonard of Port Maurice, and others, on the most efficatious methods of assisting at Mass. We are presenting a number of these meditations on the Mass through the various presentations. We are also in the process of completing an instructional video presentation on the Mass which will help parents teach their children the true meaning of the Mass and the importance and significance of the ritual.

Please Note

The law of the Church requires the faithful to assist at Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation. If, for some reason, it is impossible to assist at Holy Mass according to the law, the obligation is not binding. Viewing the Mass on a video presentation, however, does not satisfy the obligation.
