Padre Pio:The Stigmatist
|
- In this book one sees the marvelous way in which Padre Pio dealt with people to heal their bodies, souls and hearts - through miracles, providential coincidences and other remarkable answers to prayers. Madame Tangari (who was herself a remarkable person) describes how she met Padre Pio, how she became his spiritual daughter and how he guided her during the last eighteen years of his life. She tells stories of wonderful assistance that she and others received from Padre Pio regarding conversions, illness, bereavement, lost objects, broken marriage, irrational fear, business, getting out of Freemasonry and, of course, the spiritual life. Madame Tangari describes Padre Pio's amazing gift of easily solving difficult problems with a few highly inspired words, enabling the petitioner to receive special graces and favors from God and begin life anew in happiness and peace. Stories of Padre Pio gives a rare, firsthand view of this great and holy priest who - as many are hoping - may soon become a canonized Saint of the Catholic Church. |
Padre Pio died September 23, 1968, his funeral attended by over 100,000 people. During the 58 years he was a priest, his monastery at San Giovanni Rotondo, Italy, became a mecca for pilgrims from all over the world. Born Francesco Forgione on May 25, 1887 at Pietrelcina in southeastern Italy, Padre Pio joined the Capuchin Order in 1903 and was ordained in 1910. On September 20, 1918 he received the sacred wounds of Christ, or the stigmata, which he bore the rest of his life. Renowned for the stigmata, which modern medical science could not explain, Padre Pio also possessed other unusual qualities, such as bilocation, celestial perfume, the reading of hearts, miraculous cures, remarkable conversions and prophetic insight. Although he did not leave his monastery and was under obedience not to preach, this humble Capuchin monk became world famous for his piety, his counsel and his miracles, and he was universally regarded as a Saint in his own time. |

Padre Pio - Miracle Man |

Sergio Castelitto (Mostly Martha) stars as the famous Italian saint, Padre Pio (1887-1968). Like Saint Francis of Assisi, Padre Pio had the stigmata: the wounds of Christ visible on his body. Throughout his life, he performed miracles of healings, caring for both the physically sick as well as those with spiritual illnesses. Filled with gorgeous scenery from the Italian countryside, this film follows Padre Pio's life from a young boy through his death. Director Carlo Carlei (Flight of the Innocent) captures the humility, humor and common sense of St. Pio, as well as showing the persecution he suffered from both satanic attacks and misguided Church officials who distrusted him. Winner of the Audience Award at the 2001 Italian Film Awards.
